Billie, who played the Timelord’s companion Rose Tyler until 2010, could be joining Doctor Who for another episode if Matt Smith’s hints are anything to go by.
Smith and Piper didn’t actually act side by side on the BBC1 drama, as the actress played opposite former Doctor Whos Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant.
However, the latest Timelord is still keen on Piper coming back to the popular sci-fi series and revealed that he’s hoping she will return for next year’s 50th anniversary of the show.
Matt, 29, told The Sun: ‘If I wanted a companion from the past I would say Rose because I am good friends with Billie.’
The BBC is planning a 90-minute anniversary special to commemorate 50 years since Doctor Who first aired and it is expected to include ‘throwback homages’ to previous series of the show.
Billie’s character Rose left Doctor Who in 2010 ostensibly to build a life with a part-clone, part-human incarnation of the Timelord.
When she heard that David Tennant had quit Doctor Who, Billie admitted she was disappointed but showed her support for Matt, saying: ‘I hate that he’s left!
‘But then I know Matt Smith really well and I love him and I think he’s such a brilliant actor. The role couldn’t have gone to a better guy. He’s capable of that. He’s got big shoes to fill, but I’m certain he can do it.’
